Head of Creative

The Drone Racing League (DRL) is the global, professional drone racing property. Merging the digital with the real, DRL combines innovative technology, custom content and thrilling live sporting and esports events that broadcast on premier international sports networks including NBC, Twitter and Facebook. 

An incredible opportunity exists for a visionary creative leader to build DRL’s global brand reporting to the Chief Marketing Officer. The Head of Creative will lead a team of designers and video producers to bring the DRL brand to life across all mediums. This experienced leader will be skilled in visual design, have expertise in virtual experiences and live events, and be comfortable storytelling in video formats for social, digital, and broadcast platforms. The Head of Creative will be responsible for execution across our largest projects, develop our in-house creative team and provide creative direction to all external partnerships.

What you’ll do: 

  • Partner with the CMO to deliver world-class marketing campaigns for the brand, tentpole racing events, and the DRL Championship Season.
  • Manage brand projects from ideation to completion, with a focus on strategy, project-management, creative-direction and execution. 
  • Deliver innovative creative solutions for current and prospective league sponsors that will both resonate with fans and achieve sponsorship goals.
  • Deliver all aspects of branding and advertising for DRL’s live and virtual events, including commercials, broadcast graphics packages, display and video advertising, OOH, signage, product design, etc.
  • Push the DRL brand forward to stay on the cutting edge with AR/VR experiences, CGI, and new developments in drone photography/videography capture.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors, freelancers and agencies, while curating and growing a portfolio of contacts.
  • Remain current with pop culture and aware of the broader drone, FPV and gaming culture. 

Who You Are: 

  • Creative leader with 10+ years experience that includes sports and/or emerging technology background
  • Expert in digital/interactive design, user-centered experience design, brand development, digital marketing and the creative process
  • Cross-channel design experience: digital, social, mobile, web, broadcast (game design experience a plus) 
  • Experience with live event creative (signage, large screen formats, etc)
  • Experience partnering with sponsors/clients and developing creative solutions to
    business challenges
  • Experience in various production environments from “in-studio” to “on location”
  • Enthusiasm for growing a high-performing team
  • Willingness to engage with our fan communities and bringing the voice of fans into every conversation
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment with exceptional organizational skills and ability to re-prioritize on a consistent basis

Skills And Experience:

  • Effective communication skills – must be able to provide clear direction to design and video teams and to sell through concepts and executions both visually and verbally to individuals at all levels of the company.
  • Excellent hands-on design, typography, and layout skills
  • Experience with 3D modeling, concept art, illustration, image retouching, and photoshoot direction is a plus
  • Advanced skills in Adobe Creative Cloud 
  • Experience working in Google Workforce
