Lead, Technical Operations

The Drone Racing League (DRL) is the premier, global drone-racing circuit and producer of world-class sports content. As a futuristic sport that blurs the line between the real and the digital, we get to race in the most legendary locations around the globe and immerse fans into video-game-inspired courses. 

We are seeking a Lead Technician in Tech Ops to lead our team of drone assembly and product technicians.  This individual will create and design methods, systems, and processes to optimize the department’s ability to assemble, deploy, and deliver technology solutions at global DRL events. The most successful candidate will be a true leader with a technical mind who has a strong background in people and project management, as well as experience in supply chain, fabrication, and deployable technical systems.  

What You’ll Do:

  • Be the primary person responsible for ongoing maintenance of DRL’s fleet of more than 600 high performance drones, including but not limited to, preparation for live events, preparing drones for shipment, maintaining inventory, post event inventory reconciliation.
  • Work closely with engineering supporting R&D efforts for new products across all areas of race engineering, product design, and participate as a subject matter expert in FPV drone racing throughout the product life cycle
  • This position leads the work of one or more Tech Ops positions. This position plans work, assigns tasks, trains, provides priorities and is available to answer questions or troubleshoot problems on a daily basis
  • Maintain and develop all necessary event processes and procedures for the Technical Operations Team. 
  • Review and report on key performance indicators for the drone fleet and the team 
  • Facilitate effective communication between Tech Ops and key stakeholders internally and externally to ensure successful delivery of technology assets at events, activations, and content production
  • Travel to event locations for site visits, planning meetings, and on-site execution as required

Who You Are: 

  • Functional knowledge of software, hardware, and firmware development
  • 2-3 years experience with product assembly and maintenance practices 
  • 2-3 years experience with technical supply chain and inventory management 
  • Proven leadership and team management abilities
  • Creative thinker with ability to design systems and processes from the ground up
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate via phone, e-mail and face to face
  • Willingness to travel up to  25% of the time (we have 3+ events each year, each event taking about a week. All of  the technical operations team travels to the events)
  • Positive attitude, team player
