Senior Mechanical Engineer Designer

Location: New York

Reports To: Director of Drone Design

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced engineering designer to take on the needs of our growing engineering department. You are experienced with the engineering process and best practices. You will be responsible for designing drone hardware and testing equipment, while keeping them aligned on project delivery timelines. You will use your expertise to innovate and create the best system to meet project deliverables and milestones. You will ensure project work is carried out within agreed deadlines and within budget. You will be an integral part of the team designing the next generation of DRL precision flight drones, autonomous drones, drone support systems and race operations systems.

Required Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Modeling for Plastic Injection Molding, Machining, 3D Printing.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD modelling, SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience in quick turn manufacturing and prototyping.
  • Experience in Mechanical Design Review.
  • Experience in Design For Manufacturing.
  • Experience in New Product Introduction.
  • Proven track record of operating effectively, efficiently and with minimal direction through ambiguity.
  • Established success in simultaneously organizing and managing multiple large and small projects.
  • Proven track record of work demonstrating ability to adhere to DRL brand expectations, applying fundamental design skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to extend detailed concepts across multiple formats and channels.
  • Strong success rate of receiving and interpreting design direction from creative partners.
  • Be able to create mechanical BOM’s using available software and vendor information.
  • The ability to coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Support engineering teams with test fixtures.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a technically related field.

Bonus Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience with Drone Design and Architecture.
  • Knowledgeable in Product Development and Project Management tools.
  • Electromechanical / Mechatronics Skills.
