Technical and Course Production Manager

Location: New York

Reports To: Director of Events

The Drone Racing League (DRL) is the premier, global drone-racing league and producer of world-class drone sports content. At once a tech, media, events, and sports company, DRL blends a diverse array of disciplines and industries. We are seeking a Technical and Course Production Manager to creatively conceptualize, design, and bring to life the DRL race course. The best fit for this role will be someone with a vision and the technical skill set to develop the plan to make it a reality. An understanding of branding, spacial awareness, drone racing, and lighting effects, will enable this individual to design a course that is unique, challenging, and aesthetically pleasing for both the pilots and the audience. As part of the Events Team, the Technical and Course Production Manager will work with other team members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to the course design process.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the course design process, working with all key stakeholders to develop a venue-specific, sport driven, and visually exciting course line that takes into account the needs across the operations, broadcast / media, content, and marketing teams
  • Ownership of the creative vision for event in collaboration with broadcast, branding, event experience, live show and other event functional areas
  • Produce all technical drawings and renderings of the course line and event site
  • Develop the course branding plan, including design needs, shapes and materials, and location of all elements
  • Define scope of all technical equipment required for delivery of DRL races, working cross functionally to ensure needs of all departments are accounted for
  • Manage two or more freelance Site / Production Managers to build and de-rig event venues
  • Oversee the on-site course build, working with key vendors to ensure course is built to the plan specifications
  • Support course specific procurement and budget elements as it relates to the overall event plan
  • Work cross departmentally to consolidate on-site course requirements for all DRL departments including technical operations, marketing, sponsorship and broadcast / media
  • Travel to event locations for site visits, planning meetings, and on-site execution

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5 – 8 years’ experience in technical event design and production; live event experience preferred
  • B.A. from a top-tier college or university
  • Highly skilled in VectorWorks
  • Creative vision with technical backing; ability to bring vision to life
  • Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and site on large scale productions
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate via phone, e-mail and face to face Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Willingness to work long and sometimes irregular hours a must to include nights, holidays and weekends
  • Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time, but may be higher depending on event schedule
  • Positive attitude, team player
  • Knowledge of drones and drone racing a plus
  • Desire to work at a high growth, early stage company
