We are seeking a Technical Director & Course Designer to creatively conceptualize, design, and bring to life the DRL race course. The Technical Director & Course Designer will set the vision for DRL race courses and will have the functional knowledge of all technical production competencies to make this vision a reality. A deep understanding of branding, spacial awareness, drone racing, and lighting and scenic design will enable this individual to design a course that is unique, challenging, and aesthetically pleasing for both the pilots and the audience. He or she has advanced entertainment drafting skills and should be comfortable working in an office setting, as well as onsite environments, that include both traditional and non-traditional event sites.
What You’ll Do:
Lead the course design process including the creative vision, working cross-departmentally with key stakeholders to develop a venue-specific, sport driven, and visually exciting course line
Produce all technical drawings and renderings of the course line and event site
Develop the course branding plan, including design needs, shapes and materials, and location of all elements
Define scope of all technical equipment required for delivery of DRL races ensuring the needs of all departments are counted for
Oversee the on-site course build, working with key vendors and managing contractors, to ensure course is built to the plan specifications
Support course specific procurement and budget elements as it relates to the overall event plan
Work with other team members to ensure a cohesive and comprehensive approach to the site and course design process including the development of Run of Show and Production Build Schedules
Enforce safety standards, policies and procedures and make recommendations as necessary
Work cross departmentally to consolidate on-site course requirements for all DRL departments including technical operations, marketing, sponsorship and broadcast / media
Who You Are:
5 – 8 years’ experience in technical event design and production; live event experience preferred
B.A. from a top-tier college or university
Highly skilled in VectorWorks (2D and 3D workflows) required
Creative vision with technical backing; ability to communicate plan through sketches, mood boards, renderings and then bring those visions to life
Comfort and confidence communicating technical ideas to non-technical stakeholders both orally and in writing
Demonstrated ability to manage vendors and site on large scale productions
Willingness to work long and sometimes irregular hours a must to include nights, holidays and weekends
Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time, for site visits, planning meetings, and on-site execution; may be higher depending on event schedule
Knowledge of drones and drone racing a plus
Desire to work at a high growth, early stage company
